Join the USGBC Texas North Region Council for an exclusive tour of the award-winning Wells Fargo Campus in Irving, designed by Corgan. This is a unique opportunity to experience one of the nation's most ambitious sustainable workplace projects.

The 850,000-square-foot campus was designed as the largest net-positive corporate campus in the United States, with a vision to generate more energy on-site than it consumes while supporting the health and well-being of more than 4,000 employees. Through integrated design, renewable energy, and high-performance building strategies, the project demonstrates what's possible in the next generation of sustainable workplaces.

The event will begin with a presentation from the project team, followed by a guided tour highlighting the campus’ sustainability features and net-positive design strategies. About this event:

The North Central Texas Council of Government’s (NCTCOG) Regional Integration of Sustainability Efforts (RISE) Coalition is partnering with USGBC Texas to offer a comprehensive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate Exam Preparation Class on September 2nd from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The class will focus on preparing attendees for the exam based on the newest version of the green building standard, LEED v5. Sustainability professionals from local governments, universities, private industry, and more are invited to attend the class.

The LEED Green Associate Exam Preparation Class will be held in-person in the William Pitstick Conference Room at the NCTCOG Offices in Arlington, TX on September 2nd from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Registration for the class will cost $25-35, with complimentary registration available for RISE Coalition members.* The cost of registration does not include lunch which must be opted into separately for an additional fee of $15 per registrant.

Space is limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note, attendees will not be automatically scheduled for the LEED Exam; it is the responsibility of attendees to schedule their exams.

Join us for an exclusive tour of SXSW Center. Driven by a strong commitment to sustainability, SXSW Center features LEED Gold and Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) certifications and offers a mix of enterprise office spaces and thoughtfully designed spec suites for smaller tenants. The event will begin at the AGILE INTERIORS office (Suite 150), providing a central gathering location where attendees can network before the tour. From there, guests will explore the building’s dynamic lobby entrance, highlighted by large heritage oak trees and over 5,000 square feet of lush rain gardens, before visiting the 8th-floor suite to learn more about the building’s design, sustainability features, and tenant experience. The tour will conclude with a rooftop happy hour, where guests can enjoy drinks, snacks, and skyline views.

About the Presentation:

Texas faces significant challenges going forward into a changing climate. The 2021 Ice-Storm showed that not only extreme heat, but also cold can trigger thermally uncomfortable and unsafe conditions in homes. Associated with abnormal weather conditions come grid failures resulting from extreme demand peaks and physical damage to energy generation plants and infrastructures. The talk covers a series of physical measures that can be taken to reinforce houses against high and low temperatures, adapting behaviors in lifestyles and customs and also internal space use suggestions to create buffer zones and thermally safer areas indoors for the hottest and coldest times of year. The talk covers aspects of the physical construction of housing, the three dimensional design of space indoors, conditioning technologies related to solar energy availability and also to ‘solar and resilient behaviors’. The talk aims to raise awareness of what might lie ahead and provide attendees with food for thought on how they can rethink the design of their own homes and lifestyles to Be Prepared for future climates, as well in housing for clients and housing organizations.

Presenter: Susan Roaf

Sue Roaf: (B.A. Hons, A.A. Dipl., PhD, FRIAS), HonDEng, Emeritus Professor of Architectural Engineering at Heriot Watt University, Honorary Professor at Deakin University, Melbourne and the University of Queensland and Honorary Doctor at Southampton Solent University. An award winning architect, author and teacher, she has pioneered research on traditional Middle Eastern technologies, domestic solar energy, eco-design and thermal comfort. An Oxford City Councilor for 7 years, member of the UK Architects Registration Board and Lead for 5 years on building adaptation for the Scottish Government. She has written 24 books and Chaired of many international conferences on Thermal Comfort and Climate Safe Design. Her recent work in Antarctica and in the hot deserts of Australia focuses on Comfort at the Extremes.
