A Tale of Two Cities: Action Plans for Climate Change

About the Presentation:
Join us for a discussion between two of the largest cities in Texas about how they are addressing the outcomes of climate change. We will have members of the teams who created the Austin Climate Equity Plan and are developing the Harris County Climate Justice Plan tell us about each of the plans and how they came to be. Following the individual discussions of each plan, we will finish the session with a discussion on how the cities’ climate plans align and where differences may exist based on regional requirements. Join us to learn the steps Austin and Houston are taking for a livable climate for all.
Speakers:
Zach Baumer is the Chief Sustainability Officer for the City of Austin where he leads city-wide efforts to build a more sustainable and resilient City. He has worked for the City of Austin since 2011, where for over 12 years he was the Climate Program Manager, overseeing implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies across the City organization and community. Prior to the City of Austin, Zach spent 10 years working in the environmental consulting industry. Zach holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from the Presidio Graduate School and undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.
David Corbie is the Climate Justice Manager for Harris County, Texas, the 3rd most populous county in the United States. In this role, he oversees the Climate Justice planning, which will create Harris County’s first Climate Justice plan.
Prior to this role, David has spent nearly 10 years leading initiatives centered in government administration, community development, social impact, and climate action. Amongst these roles, he has served as a community organizer in the greater Boston area, as well as a public servant working for the betterment of the citizens of the City of Boston and City of Cambridge in Massachusetts.
David has received a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the Harvard Kennedy School.
