Want to raise awareness of the need for green building and sustainable development in your community? There are a number of different ways that you can make an impact as a volunteer with the U.S. Green Building Council Texas Chapter. Opportunities range from serving on the Chapter Board and Regional Councils, participating on local and statewide committees, or supporting single events with staffing, identifying topics, finding sponsors, providing creative support and so much more. We have a place for you, regardless of what you do or how much time you are able to give.

Statewide Committees 

Advocacy Policy Committee 

  • guiding priorities and direction for statewide advocacy initiatives and responses across the chapter, in line with USGBC National Advocacy Policies

Communications Committee 

  • developing and ensuring consistency of chapter messaging, branding, marketing, communications and community outreach

Finance

Committee 

  • overseeing the chapter's budgeting process and financial oversight 

 

Membership & Partnership Committee 

  • developing initiatives and outreach to foster recruitment and retention of chapter members and partner


Regional Sub-Committees

Advocacy Committee is responsible for:

  • fostering local municipal green policies and forming alliances with civic group in your community 
  • educating local leaders and local community
  • encouraging the adoption and expansion of green policies (initiatives, incentives, policies, regulations, ordinances, resolutions, tax credits, and laws)

      Communications Committee is responsible for:  

      • raising awareness of and involvement in Chapter activities and educating non-members about the Chapter and why they should join 
      • sharing your region's stories statewide with the Texas Chapter's newsletters, e-blasts, blogs, social media, and Chapter website 
      • handling local media outreach

      Emerging Professionals Committee is responsible for: 

      • seeking individuals in school, who have recently graduated and working professionals under 30 years old who are interested in learning about and advocating for sustainable building practices
      • coordinating outreach projects in your community
      • completing four main goals: advocacy and outreach, education, service, and networking 

      The Membership Committee is responsible for:

      • developing and delivering programs and events designed to attract and retain Chapter members
      • presenting networking mixers for existing and potential members
      • providing a liaison to the statewide membership committee

        Events + Education Committee is responsible for:

          • developing and delivering programs and events designed to attract new participants, retain existing customers, and meet the diverse needs of the Chapter
          • coordinating volunteers for chapter-sponsored events and programs and holding annual volunteer training session 
          • have a topic you'd like to see or want to share your expertise. Submit a program proposal here.

        Green Schools Committee is responsible for:

          • organizing Green Apple Day of Service in your community
          • reaching out to government and education officials on how and why to build high performance schools 
          • supporting state advocacy committee in proving guidance to the Texas legislature Green Schools Caucus

        Partnership Committee is responsible for: 

          • coordinating with the statewide partnership committee to provide the resources to meet the Chapter's mission
          • leading the recruitment and retention of sponsors and other sources of income for the Chapter 
          • ensuring sponsors benefits are delivered commensurate with the value of their commitment
