USGBC Texas
Green Apple
Central Texas
Service Project
Research shows that outdoor time benefits students’ well-being in myriad ways, yet some Title 1 schools lack adequate equipment to facilitate outdoor learning, dining and play. Building industry leaders helped beautify Austin schools by partnering on the Green Apple Central Texas 2023 service project hosted by USGBC Texas.
This volunteer-driven event held on October 14, 2023 drew approximately 40 volunteers to Lively Middle School to build and paint picnic tables to be installed at Lively and two other Austin ISD campuses, Odom Elementary School and Paredes Middle School.
In 2022 about 30 volunteers and many donors had also accomplished building 28 picnic tables that served two other Austin ISD Title 1 schools.
This year we are planning to do this again and serve many more schools with this effort.
We, at USGBC Texas, are fundraising to be able to buy picnic table kits. Once we raise sufficient funds, we will organize a volunteering day to put the tables together and distribute to the identified schools.
We are calling on our community and corporate partners to assist with this effort. Whether this is monetary or an in-kind volunteer donation, we would be ever so grateful to have your support. We plan to partner with AISD campuses and build approximately 30 outdoor dining tables (estimated cost = $5,000). If we are able to raise more money, we could provide more tables and cater to more schools.
The USGBC Texas Green Schools Committee will work with your PR and marketing teams to make sure this effort is promoted and does not go unnoticed for corporate donations.
Each $150 buys one more table. Any amount helps!
More details on the volunteer day to come out soon.
