About the Project
A cornerstone project in Austin ISD’s 2017 Bond Program, Doss Elementary School replaced an existing school that, while over 50 years old, continued to serve as the heart of its neighborhood community.
The new Doss Elementary, often referred to as the ‘School in the Trees,’ was constructed on the existing site in a manner to preserve the natural woods while showcasing the school's prominent location along Far West Boulevard. Inside the new school, the focus was on creating a 21st-century learning environment with flexible learning spaces for individual and small groups for a total capacity of 850 students.
The design of the facility incorporates many sustainable features such as rain water collection and rain gardens, high-performing HVAC systems and controls, low maintenance/highly durable finish materials, LED lighting systems and multiple biophilic design elements.
All of these contributed to the school’s LEED Gold certification and its 4-star status under the Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) program.
Please join us for a networking event following the tour, at 5280 Burger and Taphouse.
